Mass Effect 2 - The Worlds Biggest Side Quest

The first game's main story was about a rogue interstellar agent and his attempts to bring about the return of a galaxy purging threat called the Reapers.

So far so epic.

Then we get the watered down sequel

"More shooty less talky" seemed to be the motto.

The main story (if we can call it that) is shepard is dead and The Normandy destroyed .Then immediately brought back by to life cerberus Using vague sci fi magic? They've even built a new Normandy just to make  the first few minutes of the game even more pointless. He feels he owes them a debt, enough to work with them and investigate a new threat ,the collectors. They're abducting colonist leaving no trace of themselves and no one is investigating expect Shepard. We then get a generic bad guy who somehow never use there one superpower on the main character not even once.A bunch of "We're putting a team together" missions and then its off to the finally battle????Really??

They lazily tie it in to the main story by saying they work for the reapers etc but it really feels like a large highway to nothing in the end.

  • The weapons and armour mods from the last game are gone
  • The abilities specialisations system is gutted/vastly simplified
  • The random side missions you stumble across during planetary survey are now so ill conceived it's hard to work out what the hell is going on,some missions are so badly done the ending is an email to Shepard terminal telling him what the hell that was all about??Really?

Worst of all nothing has changed by the climax .The Reapers are still a looming threat and the player has done nothing to stop them.I can't imagine the reaper AIs being bothered by there minor servant race has being taken down.

So what we have here is an utterly pointless game that the splodey head crowd loved.
