Nailing my colours to the mast part 2

Image
Doug ernst was a blogger railing against the changes in the comic industry. An ex soldier and journalist,he joined youtube to reach a wider audience. Meanwhile the over blown and passionate Capn cummins was already there  loudly expressing his distaste for the politics and terrible comics marvel was making. I kind of thought of them as fire and water . the calm, thoughtful ernst and the raw passion of the alex jones of comics youtube ,mr cummings. Then came another ex military  man with a videos made on his shitty old phone. He used to have to use bags of frozen goods to cool it down if he was streaming. He came in somewhere in between the raw energy of the cap and the intellectual doug ,and his channel quickly exploded. He drew a lot of heat with his highly critical reviews  . It was almost as if comic writers had many years of comic sites just kissing there ass and not doing any actual criticism?? So when a suddenly popular as hell youtube channel pops up doing what t

Nailing my colours to the mast part 1

I noticed it several years ago now. The old comic book forums started changing Slowly blighted by people who only wanted to talk about the film adaptations and were ignorant and disrespectful of the source material. Worse they didn't want to solve there ignorance in any way. These invaders Showed such contempt for us I imagined they were always just one sentence away from saying "fuck you NERDS" . They always argued. Just not about comics , comic makers or the industry. but about people's choice of words?  There online behaviour and other irrelevant things. What you meant, it's original  intention  was lost on these people . Only the actual words you typed ,twisted up and spat out as whatever they wanted it to mean remained. The Pod people had arrived My favourite refrain when they got pouty was to say "welcome to the internet". They didn't get bored and go away though. They became user editors or moderators and began banning a

It's Hour come Round at Last

After a few enquiries about my comic  I've decide ,ahead of schedule, to post my promo art here  and let the great comics buying public view it for the first time. This is the full colour splash page/cover of my first comic  The art, inks and colours courtesy of the artistic genius of you tuber extraordinaire justsome guy (check him out) The black and white version, nice. Kreekraw himself  one of the two main characters of the comic  and one very angry cowboy octopus. Meet Kris he's short ,round and a bit more of a quiet ,thoughtful type. The life long partner in crime of kreekraw (who else would put up with him?) And finally just for a laugh  my own poor attempts at drawing my characters oh dear oh dear oh dear.  I'm a better writer than a graphic artist Promise Coming to indiegogo in the new year

Phantom Buster

I found a fabulous indiegogo the other week Bright exciting colours ,pure action and adventure everything mainstream comics are missing. I loved the costume ,the "day the earth stood still" style mask ,the dynamic action fighting poses and the plot intrigued me greatly. I dearly hope the creator starts another campaign for the book,I would love to read it one day. Yes ,this book's campaign did not do so well. I'm at a loss to explain it to be honest good campaigns seem to fail everyday while generic as hell ones thrive. does it not appeal to enough people? too niche ? too bright?  too shiny? All i can hope is the creator doesn't loose heart  originality is at an all time premium  as this world has a way of sucking your soul out through your arse. keep the faith brother

Saturation point

Image
A person on twitter the other day stated he's already dropped hundreds on indiegogo comics  , he's out of it for a while. Is the market saturated? Was the first wave all that there was? Where they protest donations about zak's bad treatment by Antarctic  and Ethan van sciver endlessly being lied about in the comics media ? Has the bubble burst? Too many people jumping on the bandwagon not enough money to spread between too many hopefuls. Well fiddle sticks. now there's decent in the ranks as well,  little divisions, arguments, accusations etc.  People saying since our movement is about how we hate liberal politics forced and shoe horned into stories we shouldn't have politics of any kind. people saying that the people that have hoovered up most of the money are mostly industry pros leaving none for the true indie creator to even get started. Quite frankly I don't care  these are minor quibbles , I just want to make a comics about alien abd

JJ Abrams: A study in mediocrity

This just in after comprehensively ruining the star trek and star wars franchises JJ Abrams announced publicly at a packed press conference  this morning  that his next project will be to travel back in time to personally  piss on your favourite childhood presents on Christmas morning. "It's the next logical step.It could take a while to get to everyone and ruin  every single person's favourite childhood memories but I've spent a whole life time building up to this and I believe I'm more than ready" "I'm not in this for the bags of ill deserved cash I sleep on every night." abrams continued "I'm only in this to destroy lives" He was also heard to admit to a pretty young journalist " yes I'm a total fraud, (laughs) the mystery box is complete pretentious horseshit I did it because I cant be bothered to work out how my shows will progress, but once I've got the check, fuck em right?" JJ said he co
